Aleksandra Malinowska (18) was one of the finalists at the 2015 Fr Frank Maher Classical Music Awards sponsored by Top Security, Ireland’s largest classical music competition for secondary schools. Seven finalists from Meath Kildare, Dublin, Kerry and Louth competed at the Royal College of Physicians in Dublin on Thursday 12th November to win the top prize of €3,000 to further their fledgling musical career.
Alexandra, a sixth year student at Scoil Mhuire in Trim, plays the violin and performed two pieces on the night. They were ‘Sonata for violin and piano in G Minor’ by composer Claude Debussy and ‘Waltz from Suite for violin and piano Op.6’ by Benjamin Britten. Alexandra was the only finalist from Meath in the competition and she received a €250 bursary. The top €3,000 prize was won by pianist Eoin Fleming from St. MacDara’s Community College in Templeogue, Dublin.
